عملية أخذ جزء ممثل من مادة ما لتحليله. تشمل الكلمة في المختبر أيضاً سحب مسبار الجهاز حجماً من العينة، والمعاينة الإحصائية مثل اختيار السجلات التي ستخضع للتدقيق. العينة غير الممثلة، كالبول المتروك دون مزج، تعطي نتيجة مضللة.
Definition
The act of taking a representative portion of material for testing. In the lab the word also covers the analyzer probe drawing a volume from the tube, and statistical sampling such as choosing which records to audit. A sample that is not representative, for example urine left standing without mixing, gives a misleading result.
