تحليل السبب الجذري هو طريقة منهجية للوصول إلى السبب الأساسي لمشكلة ما بدل الاكتفاء بالسبب الظاهر، باستخدام أدوات مثل الأسئلة الخمسة لماذا أو مخطط عظمة السمكة. قد يكشف مثلاً أن انحراف نتائج الصوديوم سببه قطب قديم وليس الكاشف، فيكون الإجراء التصحيحي في المكان الصحيح.
Definition
Root cause analysis is a structured method for finding the underlying cause of a problem instead of stopping at the obvious one, using tools such as the five whys or a fishbone diagram. It may show, for example, that a sodium shift came from an ageing electrode rather than the reagent, so the corrective action targets the right thing.
