الدم بكامل خلاياه وبلازماه، ويُحفظ غير متخثر بمانع تخثر مثل EDTA. هو العينة المطلوبة لتعداد الدم الكامل والخضاب السكري وغازات الدم. يجب مزج الدم الكامل بلطف قبل تمريره، لأن الخلايا تترسب خلال دقائق، والعينة غير الممزوجة تعطي تعداداً منخفضاً أو مرتفعاً كاذباً.
Definition
Blood with all its cells and plasma, kept unclotted by an anticoagulant such as EDTA. It is the required sample for the complete blood count, HbA1c and blood gases. Whole blood must be mixed gently before testing, because cells settle within minutes and an unmixed tube gives a falsely low or high count.
