الاعتماد هو اعتراف رسمي من جهة اعتماد مستقلة بأن المختبر كفء لإجراء تحاليل محددة، وللمختبرات الطبية يكون عادةً وفق ISO 15189. يختلف عن منح الشهادة لأنه يقيّم الكفاءة الفنية وصحة النتائج، ويشمل زيارات تقييم دورية ومشاركة ناجحة في التقييم الخارجي للجودة.
Definition
Accreditation is formal recognition by an independent accreditation body that a laboratory is competent to perform specific tests, and for medical laboratories it is usually against ISO 15189. It differs from certification because it assesses technical competence and the validity of results, with periodic assessment visits and satisfactory external quality assessment.
