الخطأ المعياري للمتوسط يصف الارتياب في تقدير المتوسط، ويُحسب بقسمة الانحراف المعياري على الجذر التربيعي لعدد القياسات. يختلف عن الانحراف المعياري الذي يصف تشتت النتائج الفردية، فمع 25 قياساً وانحراف معياري 0.2 يكون الخطأ المعياري 0.04 فقط.
Definition
The standard error of the mean describes the uncertainty in an estimated mean and is the SD divided by the square root of the number of measurements. It differs from the SD, which describes the scatter of individual results, so 25 measurements with an SD of 0.2 give a standard error of only 0.04.
