عينة تُجمع بعد امتناع المريض عن الطعام والمشروبات المحتوية على سعرات، عادةً من 8 إلى 12 ساعة، مع السماح بشرب الماء. يلزم الصيام لتحليل سكر الصيام وغالباً للشحوم الثلاثية. يجب أن يذكر الطلب والتقرير حالة الصيام، فغلوكوز 140 ملغ/دل بعد الطعام يختلف معناه عن القيمة نفسها عند الصائم.
Definition
A sample collected after the patient has had no food or caloric drink, usually for 8 to 12 hours, while water is allowed. Fasting is needed for fasting glucose and often for triglycerides. The request and report should state fasting status, because a glucose of 140 mg/dL after a meal means something different from the same value fasting.
