نسبة الانتشار هي نسبة الأشخاص المصابين بالحالة في المجتمع الذي يُجرى له التحليل في وقت محدد، وتمثل احتمال الإصابة قبل التحليل لدى الفرد. يختلف أداء التحليل نفسه باختلاف المكان، فللنتيجة الإيجابية لفيروس HIV في عيادة مرتفعة الانتشار معنى أقوى منها في التحري الروتيني للمتبرعين الأصحاء.
Definition
Prevalence is the proportion of people in a tested population who have the condition at a given time, and it acts as the pre-test probability for an individual. The same test performs differently in different settings, so a positive HIV test means more in a high-prevalence clinic than in routine screening of healthy blood donors.
