تقييم خطر تصلب الشرايين قياس العوامل التي تسرع ترسب اللويحات في جدران الشرايين، وأهمها البروتينات الدهنية الحاملة للكوليسترول. يقيس المخبر LDL والكوليسترول غير HDL وapoB وLp(a)، ويُقبل تحليل الشحوم دون صيام في أغلب الحالات، وتُطلب عينة صيامية إذا تجاوزت الشحوم الثلاثية نحو 400 ملغ/دل لأنها تفسد حساب LDL.
Definition
Atherosclerosis risk assessment measures the factors that speed plaque build-up in artery walls, chiefly the cholesterol-carrying lipoproteins. The laboratory measures LDL cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol, apoB and Lp(a). A non-fasting lipid profile is acceptable in most cases, and a fasting sample is requested when triglycerides exceed about 400 mg/dL, since they spoil the calculated LDL.
