المنطقة الرمادية نطاق من النتائج حول قيمة القطع لا يستطيع التحليل فيه تصنيف العينة بثقة على أنها إيجابية أو سلبية، وتحدده الشركة المصنعة غالباً كنسبة مئوية على جانبي قيمة القطع. يُعاد تمرير العينات الواقعة فيه عادة، أو تُرسل لاختبار تأكيدي، أو تُطلب عينة جديدة بعد فترة مناسبة.
Definition
A gray zone is a band of results around the cutoff within which the test cannot reliably classify a sample as positive or negative, often defined by the manufacturer as a percentage either side of the cutoff. Samples in it are usually re-run, sent for a confirmatory test, or followed by a new sample after a suitable interval.
