معيار عكارة، يُحضر عادة من كبريتات الباريوم، يُستعمل لضبط كثافة المعلق الجرثومي بالمقارنة البصرية أو بجهاز قياس الكثافة. يحتوي معلق 0.5 ماكفارلاند نحو 1.5 × 10^8 CFU/mL، وهو اللقاح المعتمد في اختبار الحساسية.
Definition
A turbidity standard, usually made of barium sulfate, used to adjust the density of a bacterial suspension by visual comparison or with a densitometer. A 0.5 McFarland suspension contains roughly 1.5 x 10^8 CFU/mL and is the standard inoculum for susceptibility testing.
