الأحياء الدقيقة السريرية فرع الطب المخبري الذي يكشف الجراثيم والفيروسات والفطور والطفيليات في عينات المرضى ويحدد حساسيتها للأدوية. تشمل أدواته الزرع والتلوين والمقايسات المناعية والتحاليل الجزيئية، وتعتمد جودة النتيجة كثيرًا على طريقة أخذ العينة، فعينة بول ملوثة بالفلورا الطبيعية قد تعطي زرعًا مضللًا.
Definition
Clinical microbiology is the branch of laboratory medicine that detects bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites in patient samples and determines their drug susceptibility. Its tools include culture, staining, immunoassays and molecular tests. Result quality depends heavily on how the sample was collected, and a urine sample contaminated with normal flora can give a misleading culture.
