صبغة تفريقية تستعمل البنفسج البلوري واليود ومزيل اللون وصبغة مقابلة لتقسيم الجراثيم حسب بنية جدارها إلى إيجابية الغرام (بنفسجية) وسلبية الغرام (وردية). تعطي صبغة غرام لعينة زرع دم إيجابية أو سائل دماغي شوكي الطبيب دليلاً أولياً للعلاج خلال ساعة تقريباً.
Definition
A differential stain that uses crystal violet, iodine, a decolorizer and a counterstain to divide bacteria by cell wall structure into Gram-positive (purple) and Gram-negative (pink). A Gram stain of a positive blood culture or CSF gives the clinician a first guide to treatment within about an hour.
