إنماء الأحياء الدقيقة من العينة على وسط مغذٍ أو فيه ضمن ظروف مضبوطة، لتحديد هويتها واختبار حساسيتها. قيمة الزرع تتبع جودة العينة، فعينة البول المتروكة ساعات في حرارة الغرفة قد تنمو فيها جراثيم لم تكن ذات أهمية عند الجمع.
Definition
The growth of microorganisms from a specimen on or in a nutrient medium under controlled conditions, so they can be identified and tested. A culture is only as good as the specimen, and urine left for hours at room temperature can grow organisms that were not significant at collection.
