معامل التغطية هو الرقم الذي يُضرب به الارتياب المعياري للحصول على الارتياب الموسّع، ويُرمز له بالحرف k. القيمة الشائعة k = 2 تعطي احتمال تغطية يقارب 95%، ويجب ذكر قيمة k عند إبلاغ الارتياب حتى يفهم القارئ معنى المجال.
Definition
The coverage factor is the number by which standard uncertainty is multiplied to obtain expanded uncertainty, written as k. The usual value k = 2 gives a coverage probability of about 95%, and k should be stated whenever uncertainty is reported so the reader knows what the interval means.
