الغدد الصماء هو الاختصاص الذي يدرس الهرمونات والغدد التي تفرزها، مثل الدرق والكظر والنخامى والمناسل. تعتمد تحاليله غالبًا على المقايسات المناعية، ويؤثر توقيت سحب العينة في النتيجة، فالكورتيزول يُقاس صباحًا عادة، وقد تسبب مكملات البيوتين نتائج خاطئة في بعض مقايسات TSH والهرمونات الدرقية.
Definition
Endocrinology is the specialty that studies hormones and the glands that secrete them, such as the thyroid, adrenal, pituitary and gonads. Its tests mostly use immunoassays, and sampling time affects the result, for example cortisol is usually measured in the morning. Biotin supplements can falsely alter some TSH and thyroid hormone immunoassays.
