كائن دقيق في المزرعة دخل أثناء الجمع أو النقل أو المعالجة ولم يأتِ من موضع الإنتان. العنقوديات سلبية المخثراز في زجاجة واحدة من زرع الدم تكون غالباً ملوثاً، والمزارع الإيجابية الكاذبة تؤدي إلى مضادات حيوية غير ضرورية.
Definition
A microorganism in a culture that did not come from the site of infection and was introduced during collection, transport or processing. Coagulase-negative staphylococci in a single blood culture bottle are often contaminants, and false positive cultures lead to unnecessary antibiotics.
