عدد الكريات البيضاء في وحدة الحجم من الدم، ويُعبر عنه بوحدة 10^9 خلية في اللتر. يعكس ارتفاعه غالباً عدوى أو التهاباً، أما الارتفاع الشديد مع خلايا شاذة فيستدعي لطاخة للبحث عن ابيضاض الدم. قد ترفع الكريات الحمراء المنواة أو تكتلات الصفيحات التعداد زيفاً، لذلك تجب مراجعة تنبيهات الجهاز.
Definition
The number of white cells per unit volume of blood, reported as 10^9 cells per liter. A raised count often reflects infection or inflammation, and a very high count with abnormal cells needs a smear to look for leukemia. Nucleated red cells or platelet clumps can falsely raise the count, so analyzer flags must be checked.
