مقياس لتفاوت أحجام الكريات الحمراء، ويُعبر عنه بمعامل الاختلاف (RDW-CV بالنسبة المئوية) أو بالانحراف المعياري (RDW-SD بالفمتولتر). يعني ارتفاعه اختلاط أحجام الخلايا. في فقر الدم صغير الكريات يرجح ارتفاع RDW عوز الحديد، بينما يكون طبيعياً غالباً في حمل صفة التلاسيميا، مع تداخل واسع بين الحالتين.
Definition
A measure of the variation in red cell size, reported as a coefficient of variation (RDW-CV, %) or a standard deviation (RDW-SD, fL). A high RDW means mixed cell sizes. In microcytic anemia a raised RDW favors iron deficiency, while thalassemia trait often has a normal RDW, although the overlap is wide.
