عدد الكريات الحمراء في وحدة الحجم من الدم، ويُعبر عنه بوحدة 10^12 خلية في اللتر. تعد الأجهزة الخلايا بطريقة المقاومة الكهربائية أو الطرق الضوئية. ارتفاع تعداد الكريات الحمراء مع انخفاض MCV وهيموغلوبين قريب من الطبيعي يرجح حمل صفة التلاسيميا، وهي شائعة في المنطقة، ويستدعي الرحلان الكهربائي للخضاب.
