التعريف
بروتين يخزن الحديد، ويقاس في المصل بالتحليل المناعي بوحدة نانوغرام/مل أو ميكروغرام/لتر. انخفاضه أكثر مؤشر منفرد نوعية لعوز الحديد. وهو أيضاً من بروتينات الطور الحاد، فقد ترفعه العدوى أو الالتهاب أو أمراض الكبد وتخفي عوز الحديد، ولذلك يقاس CRP معه غالباً.
Definition
An iron storage protein measured in serum by immunoassay, in ng/mL or µg/L. A low ferritin is the most specific single marker of iron deficiency. Ferritin is also an acute-phase protein, so infection, inflammation or liver disease can raise it and hide iron deficiency, which is why CRP is often measured alongside.
