خفض عدد الأحياء الدقيقة الحية على السطوح أو الأدوات إلى مستوى آمن، دون أن يقتل بالضرورة الأبواغ الجرثومية. من المطهرات الشائعة في المختبر هيبوكلوريت الصوديوم والكحول 70 بالمئة. يجب أن يتبع تركيز الهيبوكلوريت ومدة التماس الإجراء المكتوب، وأن يُحضر المحلول المخفف طازجاً لأنه يفقد فعاليته.
Definition
Reducing the number of viable microorganisms on surfaces or items to a safe level, without necessarily killing bacterial spores. Common lab disinfectants are sodium hypochlorite and 70 percent alcohol. Hypochlorite strength and contact time should follow the written procedure, and diluted bleach should be prepared fresh because it loses strength.
