طبقة رقيقة من الدم تُفرد على شريحة زجاجية وتُلون، غالباً بصبغة رايت أو ماي غرونوالد غيمزا، ثم تُفحص بالمجهر. تؤكد تنبيهات الجهاز وتظهر ما لا يعطيه أي عداد، مثل الأرومات والخلايا الهدفية والخلايا المجزأة وطفيليات الملاريا. يضع كل مختبر معايير مكتوبة لمتى تُراجع اللطاخة.
Definition
A thin film of blood spread on a glass slide, stained (often with Wright or May-Grunwald Giemsa stain) and examined under the microscope. It confirms analyzer flags and shows features no counter reports, such as blasts, target cells, schistocytes or malaria parasites. Each lab should have written criteria for when a smear is reviewed.
